Since 2001 a city the size of Leeds has been added to the population of London, and the population of Manchester is expected to join us by 2031. This will put a huge stress onto the existing tube system. Encouraging users to increasingly complete larger parts of their journey by walking at street level instead should help to sustainably mitigate this stress.
Using designer Mark Noad’s underground map based on more geographically accurate distances between stations, the Wanderaround Map is a smart phone app that simply presents distances between stations presented as accurate time estimates, all locations within a given time boundary, and calories burned in walking those journeys. Ment as a simple, yet effective, intervention in journey behaviours.
